Students in Franklin County schools are all on the same page this year.
Almost literally.
The system has implemented a curriculum guide for teachers at Vina, Red Bay, Belgreen, Phil Campbell, Tharptown and East Franklin to follow. The guide is being used in the core subject areas of math, language arts, science and social studies from kindergarten through the 12th grade.
This will allow students at all county schools to study the same topics and coursework throughout the year.
The system is working with an education consultant to follow up with the implementation of the program which went into effect with the beginning of the current school year.
Community education coordinator Susan Hargett said that the plan adheres to the requirements of the No Child Left Behind program that President Bush and Congress put into action earlier in his first term.
In the future, the system hopes to add professional activities for teachers and support personnel.
The program currently meets all state requirements for courses and keeps all schools on the same level.
The curriculum guideline was developed by teachers throughout the system who have been working to get it into place since the summer of 2003. The guideline will be updated and revised each year.
