Website update proposal delayed

RED BAY — Councilmembers have delayed action on a proposal to update the city’s website while officials gather additional information about hosting, maintenance and registrationrelated services.

Mayor Mike Shewbart said city officials had been in contact with the Town Square Group about website services. The company has indicated it could provide hosting, maintenance, and management services for the city.

The cost of the services would range from about $200 to $300 per month, he said.

Shewbart said the city currently does not have website support.

Jason Collum, who originally built the city’s website in 2017, told council members the site is hosted through Network Solutions. He said previous city employees had managed the website over the years.

Councilmembers discussed whether a new website could include the parks and recreation department’s Rec Desk registration system, which is used for sports signups and payment processing. Parks and Recreation Director Dean Hubbard said the current setup handles registration records, payments and refunds through the city’s designated accounts.

Council member Jason Vinson said he wanted additional information before taking a vote. He asked for comparisons between available services and current systems.

Councilmembers voted to table the matter until the next meeting so this information can be gathered and presented.

Shewbart said officials are trying to move quickly because of upcoming Founders Day activities and potential online registration needs.
