Search for executive director begins soon
TUSCUMBIA — The board overseeing the Alabama Music Hall of Fame has established procedures for selecting a new executive director.
The position has been open since the board voted on July 30, 2025, to terminate Sandra Killen Burroughs, who had been put on administrative leave after she was asked to repay $64,719 in misspent funds. TheAlabamaExaminers of Public Accounts originally asked Burroughs to repay $114,637 but the amount was reduced to $64,719 after she submitted additional information about expenditures.
Board Chair Judy Hood said auditors have worked with hall of fame officials and compliance issues have been addressed.
Requirements for the executive director’s position include at least five years of experience in marketing or communications, knowledge and experience in state compliance procedures and a background in finance.
Board members agreed Tuesday to conduct the interviews via Zoom. The dates of the interviews were undecided.
Hood said she would send applications to board members prior to the interviews. Each candidate will be asked similar questions.
The interviews will be open to the public, Hood said. She said the public will be given a 24 hours notice ahead of the called meeting.
In other business, the board:
• Unanimously approved accepting MG Roofing Inc.’s $150,652 bid for work on the facility at 617 U.S. Highway 72 West.
It was the lowest among three bids. Advanced Roofing Solutions LLC bid $157,000 and Johns ad Kirksey Inc. bid $167,100.
Interim Executive Director Kelly McDonald said the project is not a complete rebuild of a roof.
“The flashing on the roof was lifted from wind damage and it was allowing water to come in through the roof,” McDonald said.
She said the damage to the 36-year-old roof occurred during a tornado that struck Tuscumbia in 2025.
