3 face drug charges
RUSSELLVILLE — Three people are facing drug trafficking charges following two separate events last week.
Members of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Alabama Drug Enforcement Task Force for Region E executed a search warrant on County Road 22 in the Spruce Pine community after receiving multiple complaints of alleged drug activity coming from a residence, according to Clint Holcomb with the sheriff’s office.
Deputies found two people inside the residence along with more than 28 grams of methamphetamines and more than 1 gram of fentanyl powder in the residence, Holcomb said.
Deputies arrested and charged Robert Justin Cornelison, 37, of Spruce Pine with two counts of drug trafficking (meth and fentanyl) and one count each of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
He currently is being held in the Franklin County Detention Facility on a $200,000 bond.
Deputies also arrested and charged Ashley Kristina Mayfield, 33, of Tuscumbia with two counts of drug trafficking (meth and fentanyl) and one count each of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and unlawful possession of prescription medication.
She is currently being held in the Franklin County Detention Facility on a $200,000 bond.
“We had been investigating this residence for some time now,” Holcomb said. “That along with the complaints we had received of alleged drug activity from the house led to the search warrant.”
A Franklin County grand jury charged Cornelison with one count of drug trafficking in April 2023. His trial had been continued 15 times since July 2023, according to court records.
His trial for that charge is now scheduled for Aug. 17.
The district attorney’s office also filed a motion to have his bond regarding his arrest for the 2023 drug trafficking case revoked.
Circuit Court Judge Brian P. Hamilton will hold a hearing on the bond revocation request on Aug. 6, according to court records.
In a separate incident, Russellville Police conducted a traffic stop which resulted in a drug trafficking arrest on Bradley Street, according to Police Chief Chris Hargett.
Mayfield
Police observed a vehicle driven by William Christopher Fisher Jr., 28, turn on Watergate Road. The vehicle made a wide turn and overcorrected, so police initiated a traffic stop.
When police approached the driver, they noticed a green leafy substance believed to be Spice on Fisher’s clothing in the chest area and lap area, Hargett said.
Police did a search of the vehicle and found a homemade bong in the vehicle with liquid and Spice in the bong, Hargett said. The total contents measured 490 grams.
Fisher
Fisher, who Hargett said was a known user of drugs, was arrested and charged with drug trafficking, DUI, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was booked into the Franklin County Detention Facility on July 14 and released July 15 on a $100,000 bond.
