Club Chronicles: Christmas entertainment options abound in Russellville

Are you looking for some Christmas entertainment? You can find it in Russellville this weekend. Clubs, organizations and churches are sponsoring various activities for the holiday season.

Cultura Garden Club will sponsor its annual Every Light a Prayer for Peace Thursday at the Franklin County Courthouse from 4:30-5 p.m. Guest speaker will be Jim Poss, pastor at Branches Church.  Entertainment will be presented by the RHS and RMS choruses and drama students, and the JROTC will present the colors. The public is invited to attend.

Prior to this ceremony, a reception for veterans will be held in the courthouse conference room from 3:30-4:15 p.m. The reception is co-sponsored by Book Lovers Study Club and the Cultura Garden Club.

The Russellville Christmas Parade will follow this ceremony at 6 p.m.

The Franklin County Arts Council has stored the Toyland costumes and props for this year and is planning an outstanding show this Saturday evening with the Kerry Gilbert Band and guest Leroy Troy.

Leroy Troy is a banjo player from Goodlettsville, Tenn. His banjo style is the clawhammer, or frailing style, distinct from more commonly found Scruggs-style banjo playing in modern bluegrass. He often performs humorous or comedy songs from the old-time music genre. He debuted on the Grand Ole Opry in 1988 and was the National Old-Time Banjo Champion in 1996.

Troy is known as “the Tennessee Slicker” and plays with the Tennessee Mafia Jugband and Marty Stuart, appearing weekly on The Marty Stuart show on RFD-TV.  The show begins at 7 p.m.

Book Lovers Study Club will sponsor its annual Holiday Tour of Homes Dec. 9 from 1-5 p.m.  Calvary Baptist Church will serve as the location to purchase tickets, pick up tour brochure and tour map as well as enjoy refreshments. Homes included on the tour are those of Greg and Kathy Hovater, Matt and Greta Cooper, Elliiott and Ponda Gordan and Matt and Laura Kroger.
