RPD makes felony child abuse arrest

When the RPD responded to reports of a child locked inside a hot car Aug.1, they found the 2-year-old in visible heat distress.

When the RPD responded to reports of a child locked inside a hot car Aug.1, they found the 2-year-old in visible heat distress.

A woman has been arrested after leaving a child unattended in a dangerously hot environment.

Aug. 1 Russellville police responded to a call concerning a small child being left unattended inside a vehicle with the windows rolled up and the vehicle not running. RPD investigators reported that when officers arrived on the scene at the business, they discovered the child, 2, secured in a child restraint seat and in obvious heat distress. A Russellville officer knocked the window out of the vehicle and removed the child from the car seat. EMS was notified and provided care to the child before transporting the child to Russellville Hospital. The child was given treatment at Russellville Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery,

Police arrested Maria Isabel Martinez Lopez, 24, of Russellville, for felony child abuse and endangering welfare of a child.
