Carman Gilbert “Gib” Childers

Carman Gilbert “Gib” Childers, 78, died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at Red Bay Hospital. He was a native of Franklin County and was retired from the U.S. Air Force as an airplane mechanic after 20 years. He has also been employed at Sunshine Mills.

Services were Sunday, April 15, 2012, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel. Joey Childers and Bro. Steve Lindsay officiated. Burial was in Red Bay City Cemetery.

Survivors are his wife of 43 years, Jane Childers, Red Bay; one son, Joey Childers and wife, Carla, Red Bay; one granddaughter, Carmon McKynli Childers; two sisters, Shirley Ann Scott, of Vina, and Jackie Veldon, of Zion, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hudson Dewey Childers and Clara Jessica Hall Childers and three brothers, Norman Childers, Connie Childers and Joe Childers.

Pallbearers were Ed Hammock, Oneal Jackson, Gary Dees, Donnie Wilson, Ricky Dees and Ross Cooper.
