Garden club hosts plant, bake sale
RED BAY — The Red Bay Garden Club held its annual plant and bake sale Saturday at the high school greenhouse to raise funds for projects across the city.
“We put everything back into the City of Red Bay to beautify our community,” club member Tracie Clark said.
She said the club uses those funds to maintain the Hoyt Keeton Walking Trail, care for flower beds, and support landscaping efforts in public spaces.
Members plant and maintain flowers throughout Red Bay, including downtown planters, Bay Tree Park and areas near Red Bay High School, as well as beds at the Franklin County Revenue and Tax Office.
“Our club all comes together, and we work as a team to support Red Bay beautification,” Clark said.
The sale included plants grown and shared by members, along with varieties such as lantanas, impatiens, begonias and vegetables, as well as trees including dogwoods, willow and crabapple.
Members also prepared homemade baked goods.
“The turnout was great,” Clark said.
She said the club partners with local groups on projects, including Red Bay High School’s FFA program, which donated birdhouses made by students.
“Some people build them but don’t take them home, so they donate them to us and then we sell them,” Clark said.
The club also held a raffle for a Schefflera tree donated by Scotty Kennedy. Morgan Haney won.
Clark said the club will wrap up its season in May with a meeting and a planned trip to Oliver’s Strawberry Farm in Russellville.
