RHS sweeps Lawrence County; 13 of last 14 games are wins

RHS sweeps Lawrence County; 13 of last 14 games are wins

The Russellville baseball team remained undefeated in the area with a sweep of the Lawrence County Red Devils. The Golden Tigers have won 13 of their last 14 games and are now 16-13 for the season.

The Golden Tigers dominated Lawrence County with a 25-1 win on April 7. Russellville scored six runs in the second inning, nine in the third and 10 in the fourth.

Brayden Entrekin hit two home runs and Bryson Cooper also homered. Russellville got two doubles from Tripp Cleveland and one each by Tristan Ray, Brayden Hatton, Ty Engelthaler and Houston Askew. The Golden Tigers stole 17 bases during the win.

Engelthaler got the start on the mound and the win. The right-hander allowed only two hits and struck out six.

Russellville traveled to Lawrence County on April 9 for a doubleheader and the Golden Tigers defeated the Red Devils 9-0 and 11-1.

RHS outhit Lawrence County 11-2 in the first game of the day. Caleb Hawkins, Entrekin, Cleveland and Malaki Groce all had two hits each. Groce and Hawkins had doubles while Hawkins led the team with three RBIs.

The Russellville pitchers were Entrekin and Hatton. Entrekin went five innings and struck out nine before Hatton worked a spotless final two frames.

Russellville needed only five innings to defeat LCHS in the final game of the series. The Golden Tigers outhit the Red Devils 10-1 during the 11-1 victory.

Cooper, Entrekin, Hatton and Groce had two hits each. Doubles were collected by Entrekin, Groce and Ray. Cooper, Ray and Hatton had the top RBI totals with two each.

Hawkins was the winning pitcher. The righty struck out 11 and issued no walks.

The Golden Tigers finished the week with a 5-4 home win over Southside in thrilling fashion on Saturday. RHS was trailing 4-0 going into the bottom of the final inning when the Golden Tigers rallied to get the win.

Hawkins singled with two outs to score Keifer Hallmark to finish the comeback victory. Groce had three hits to lead RHS and the senior also had two RBIs.

Jackson Smith pitched four innings for Russellville and Cleveland worked the final three innings.

RHS honored Engelthaler, Groce, Cooper, Askew and Hatton April 7on senior night.
