Phil Campbell, Tharptown get softball wins

Early in the week, Phil Campbell and Red Bay battled it out in a pre-Franklin County Tournament contest with the Bobcats coming out on top 9-6.

The game was tied 2-2 after one inning, but the Bobcats scored on one in the bottom of the second to take a 3-1 lead. Both teams went scoreless through the next two innings before an explosion of runs in the fifth.

Red Bay scored four in the top half of the inning to take a 6-3 lead. Phil Campbell responded in the bottom half of the inning with six runs to take the lead and hang on for the win.

It was a rough stat line for both teams. Phil Campbell scored nine runs on six hits while committing five errors. Red Bay scored six runs on five hits while committing three errors.

Addi James and Chaley Bullington both had three RBIs. Georgia Motes and Shiloh Madden scored two runs each.

James got the win in the circle going the distance. She allowed just two earned runs on five hits and struck out eight.

Tharptown 10 Haleyville 9

Tharptown beat the Haleyville Lions 10-9 early in the week. Haleyville scored a run in second and third inning to take a 2-0 lead.

Tharptown tied the game in the top of the fourth and took the lead a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth. Haleyville reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the inning, scoring three runs to take a 5-3 lead.

The Wildcats scored a run in the top of the sixth and seventh innings to send the game to extra innings. The Wildcats scored five runs in the top of the eighth and held on as Haleyville scored four in the bottom half.

Gabi Johnson had three hits, including two doubles, an RBI and scored twice for Tharptown. Lexi Little, Allie Gann and Paisleigh Carr all had two hits each.

Alyssa Fischer went the distance in the circle allowing eight hits, three earned runs and struck out three.
