Joe Franklin Bradley

October 8, 2010

Joe Franklin Bradley, 63, departed this life Oct. 8, 2010, at his home surrounded by his loving family and long time friends after a brief and courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services held Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010 at Pinkard Funeral Home in Russellville with Bro. Tommy James and Bro. Sammy Taylor officiating.  Interment was in KP Cemetery.

Joe was a lifelong resident of Franklin County, Ala.  He went to school at Rockwood and graduated from Russellville High School.  He also attended Northwest Junior College on a basketball scholarship.  He was a member of Isbell United Methodist Church, Cahaba Shriners and a Mason.

Joe was admired for his big heart and soft spoken manner.  In his high school days, many hours were spent with his buddies playing basketball.  At a young age, he started his first business, a small service station at Isbell.  An honest, kind and hardworking man, Joe dedicated the past 40 years of his life at Joe’s Truck Stop on top of Spruce Pine Mountain.

Joe was preceded in death by his father, Jack Allen; loving grandparents, Marion and Myrtle Bradley; son, Michael “Fred” Frederick; brother-in-law, Roger Hovater; and sister, Connie Walker.

Joe is survived by Carol Sue Frederick, his loving wife and companion of 21 years; his mother, Frances Bradley Huckaba, of Russellville; sons, Joey Bradley and wife Christine, of Wheaton, Ill. and Joel Bradley and wife, Scarlet, of Phil Campbell; daughter, Farrah Fredrick and friend, Tanya Wiginton, of Russellville; brother, Mack Huckaba, of Cleveland, Ohio; sister, Mary Ann Hovater, of Russellville; brother-in-law, Dr. James D. Reed; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Cole and husband, Wayne, all of Birmingham;  nieces, Andrea and Bethany Hovater, of Russellville.

Joe was the proud grandfather of Page Catherine Bradley whose birth put a gleam in his eyes. He was Pap Paw to Luke Shepherd, Popa Joe to Paislyn Norris and Paw Paw Uncle Joe to D.J. Cole who all loved him dearly.

Pallbearers were Satch Jones, Billy Todd, Reed Cole, David Cole, Wayne West, Mike Norton, Larry Thornton, and Dr. James D. Reed.

The family wishes to express their appreciation and thanks to Rhonda Price of Keller Health and special friends, Satch Jones and Pat McInnish.

Joe will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.  Joe loved Carol and their feelings for each other were expressed in a card given to him by Carol that he kept with him always.  It read, “We joke around and laugh a lot and talk for hours on end.  How did I get so lucky? You’re my lover and my friend. And this little card you’re reading holds the special love we share.  It’s the part of me that goes with you always, everywhere.”
