Phil Campbell ready for home opener
PHIL CAMPBELL — After two weeks on the road Phil Campbell hosts its first home game of the season Friday night when the Bobcats host Lamar County.
Phil Campbell is in need of a region win after falling to Colbert Heights on a last-second play last week.
Bobcat coach Bo Culver said after that game his team had a great chance of winning, but a lack of execution at key times cost Phil Campbell the win.
That loss could haunt the Bobcats later in the season as the playoffs approach. A win against Lamar County would help prevent that from happening.
Lamar County lost its opening game to South Lamar, but rebounded for a convincing 54-6 win against Cherokee last week.
The Bulldogs are averaging 34 points per game and allowing only 12.5 points.
Phil Campbell’s offense is averaging four touchdowns through its first two games and the defense has been strong.
The biggest problems for the Bobcats last week were the two turnovers and a break down on special teams that allowed Colbert Heights to return a kick off for a touchdown.
Expect Culver to address those issues in practice this week and for Phil Campbell to give the home crowd a great effort on their home field.
