August 28, 2010

Charles Wells, born Feb. 6, 1929, entered into rest on Aug. 28, 2010 at the age of 81 after a brief illness.

Charles has been a lifelong resident of Franklin County.

The  funeral service was held at Akins Funeral Home on Monday, Aug. 30, 2010, with Bro. Michael Stancil officiating. Interment was in Franklin Memory Gardens.

An honest, kind, and hardworking man, Charles dedicated the past 60 years of his life building quality homes that each and every owner would be proud of.  These are many of the houses throughout North Alabama that will stand as a monument to Charles and his values for many years to come.

There are now four generations of builders that have grown from the Wells family.  Charles’ father, AP Wells, taught him where he in turn taught his sons Larry and James Wells, and his grandsons Michael and Chad Wells, all of Russellville.

Charles is survived by five children, Larry Wells of Russellville and his wife Sherry Wells; James Wells of Russellville and his wife Denise Wells; Gayle Barnes of Elberton, Ga.: Tina Law of Muscle Shoals and her husband Sam Law, and Tammy Johnson of Huntsville; and his wife Lillian Blake Wells of 13 years, where he also gained the children of Lillian and the late John Blake, David and Maria Fisher of Russellville; four brothers Doug Wells, Pete Wells, Billy Wells, Hoyt Wells and one sister Dot Franks.

He was the loving husband, father, and “Pawpaw Wells” to 20 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father, AP and Velma Wells, and his loving wife of 47 years Dorothy Wells.

Pallbearers will be Major Jason Wells, Chad Wells, Michael Wells, Matthew Glass, Dustin Fisher and Cory Blake. Honorary pallbearers are Sid Gailey and Andrew Law.

Charles was a dedicated member of Southside Baptist Church in Russellville. Charles will always be loved, respected and greatly missed by his family and friends.

The family expresses their appreciation and thanks to family and friends for their prayers and support during Dad’s illness.
