PC rolls to 27-6 win

BREMEN — Phil Campbell scored early and often in its season opening 27-6 victory at Cold Springs.

Corey Alexander began the scoring with a 7-yard run and Brent Whitten added the point after to give the Bobcats a 7-0 lead about three minutes into the game.

Phil Campbell extended the lead in the second when Alexander found Jordan Benford with a 17-yard touchdown pass. The kick failed, leaving Phil Campbell with a 13-0 advantage.

Alexander threw his second touchdown of the night five minutes before halftime, hitting Craig Saint on a 21-yards pass. Saint added the 2-point conversion on a run play to give the Bobcats a 21-0 lead at halftime.

Cold Springs threatened to score in the second quarter, but the Phil Campbell defense stopped the drive at the Bobcat 4-yard line.

The Bobcats held the ball for most of the third quarter, but a drive stalled at the Cold Springs 4-yard line.

The Phil Campbell defense made another key play when Andy Landers stripped the ball away from a Cold Springs player and ran it into the end zone for a score.

The Eagles scored with 12 seconds remaining in the game to break up the shut out.

Alexander completed 12-of-19 passes for 149 yards and two touchdowns. He added 49 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.

Saint was the leading rusher with 70 yards.
