Vina hosting annual July Fest today
VINA- Dorothy Davidson and the Vina Rescue Squad are primed and ready to welcome those seeking entertainment and good ol’ fashion fun at Vina’s 20th annual July Fest today.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m.
Davidson said activities this year include a car show, live music, arts and crafts, games and a 10 p.m. firework display with over $1,300 worth of fireworks.
All proceeds from the car show will go towards the fight against Parkinson’s disease.
Davidson said musical performances will be held indoors at the Vina Fire Department throughout the festival and for those worried about the heat to not worry because multiple fans are setup to keep the place cool.
Davidson said the event that peaks everyone’s interest is the festival’s annual “Draw Down”
Davidson said several people have been selling tickets for the drawing, which offers the winner a choice between $17,000 cash, a new car, a new tractor or a 4-wheeler package.
“People really start packing in around 4 or 5 to get ready for the 6 p.m. drawing,” she said. “Once it gets down to the last few names people really start to squirm.”
Davidson said each ticket is $100 a piece and during the drawing there are chances to win door prizes.
“The first name drawn automatically wins $200 and then every 25th name drawn wins their $100 back,” Davidson said. “Tickets for the drawing have been on sale for a while now, but there may possibly be some tickets left the day of the festival. Those who are interested may contact any member of the Vina Rescue Squad for more information on the drawing.”
Admission to the festival is free and food vendors will be on-hand serving those with an appetite while they enjoy the festivities and entertainment.
