Dr. Gerald Lee “Bro. Jerry” Swimmer, 79, of Red Bay passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010 at his residence.  He was born January 7, 1931 in Chester, Penn., to Jacob and Evelyn Bruner Swimmer.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Minister of Music and Youth for 50 years in several different locations and was currently the Pastor at Vina First Baptist Church.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Vina First Baptist Church with Bro. Rick Engel and Bro. Billy Burge officiating.  Deaton Funeral Home assisted the family.

He is survived by one son, Charles Swimmer and wife, Charlotte, of Iuka, Miss.; granddaughter, Rebecca Smith and husband, Brian, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; brother, Ricky Swimmer, of Atlanta, Ga.; sister, Kay Fishgold, of Philadelphia, Penn.; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Betty Swimmer.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Vina First Baptist Church Youth and Music Program, 75 Berry Cemetery Road, Red Bay, AL 35582.
