Two more arrests made in paving scam

A father and son have been taken into custody in connection with a paving scam targeting older residents in Franklin County.

Investigators said Tommy Stanley Jr., 53, and Tommy Patrick Stanley III, 19, both of 229 Melissa Drive, Muscle Shoals, are charged with attempted first-degree theft of property.

Authorities said Tommy Patrick Stanley III was attending a hearing at the Franklin County Courthouse and his father, Tommy Stanley Jr. had come to support his son.

Once investigators realized who they were, authorities apprehended them for their involvement in a recent scam.

Investigators said a resident from the East Franklin community alerted authorities of the scams back in May after realizing the two men had completed a below standard paving job, then took his money and left.

The resident claimed he paid between $2,000 and $5,000 and received only a half- inch thick of poured pavement, authorities said.

Investigators said Rusty Keith Gargis, 25, of 995 County Line Road, Leighton, and James Anthony Adams, 30, of 460 Rayburn Drive, Russellville, were both arrested and charged with first-degree attempted theft of property back in May for that particular paving job.

Authorities said all four men posed as a legitimate paving company under the name Adams paving.

Investigators said there might possibly be two more people involved in the paving scams and if anyone feels that this has happened to them, they are encouraged to give the Franklin County Sheriff’s office a call at 256-332-8811.
