Three Golden Tigers earn honorable mentions in Class 5A

The Russellville baseball team returned to the state playoffs in 2010 following a one-year absence.

Three of those players have been recognized for their outstanding efforts in returning the Golden Tigers to the playoffs.

Senior Jake Ward and juniors Ryan Bowling and Nathan Vincent received honorable mentions on the Class 5A All-State Team.

Ward, who earned his spot on the team as an outfielder, had a batting average of .514 in 134 at bats. He had 69 hits, including 19 doubles, a triple and a home run.

Ward drove in 42 runs for the Golden Tigers and scored 55 runs. He stole 25 bases and drew 25 walks while striking out only seven times.

He signed with Shelton State Community College.

Bowling went 11-3 on the mound for Russellville, including a pair of shutouts.

He had an ERA of 2.50 in 67 innings pitched. He struck out 72 batters, gave up 61 hits and issued 30 walks.

Vincent earned his honorable mention at the shortstop position. He hit .411 in 119 at bats.

He had 49 total hits, including 10 doubles, eight home runs and four triples. He drew 35 walks and stole 20 bases.

Vincent scored 48 runs and had 43 RBIs.
