Party ends with arrest

A Russellville man was taken into custody Tuesday on cocaine charges.

Authorities with Franklin County Community Corrections said Christopher Lafayette Sargent, 48, of 94 Polk Street, Russellville, was arrested and charged with violation of community corrections, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.

Authorities said officers had been looking for Sargent initially because of his violation of community corrections.

Investigators said while out patrolling, Sargent was located at an apartment on Marion Street in Russellville.

Authorities said it appeared the suspect was attending a party.

Investigators said once Sargent realized law enforcement officials had pulled up to the residence, he threw down what was later found to be crack cocaine and ran.

Authorities said the suspect was caught within seconds of trying to get away.

Sargent is currently being held at the Franklin County jail.
