Deputies make arrest in paving scam
Two men are in jail after reports indicate they had been scamming paving jobs, targeting residents between the ages of 60 and 90 during daytime hours.
Franklin County Sheriff’s office investigators said Rusty Keith Gargis, 25, of 995 County Line Road, Leighton, and James Anthony Adams, 30, of 460 Rayburn Drive, Russellville, were both charged with first-degree attempted theft of property.
Authorities said the two men posed as a legitimate paving company under the name Adams Paving.
Investigators said a resident from the East Franklin community alerted authorities Wednesday after realizing the two men had completed a below standard paving job, then took his money and left.
The resident claimed he paid between $2,000 and $5,000 and received only a half- inch thick of poured pavement, authorities said.
Both men are being held at the Franklin County jail.
The scams are still under investigation.
Investigators said approximately six people were involved in the paving scams and if anyone feels that this has happened to them, they are encouraged to give the Franklin County Sheriff’s office a call at 332-8811.
