Rea advances, Jones falls at state

Russellville’s trip to the state tennis tournament produced mixed results through Tuesday afternoon.

Kaylee Jones, playing in the No.-1 singles tournaments, began with a 6-1, 6-0 victory against Pleasant Grove’s Meleah Wylie. Jones then lost to Audrey Bedford of Muscle Shoals 6-3, 6-3 in the second round.

Keifer Rea, the only member of the boys team to reach state, has advanced to the quarterfinals.

He defeated Boaz’s Wood Nesbitt 6-3, 6-1 and Matt Nichols of Briarwood Christian Academy 6-2, 6-1.

Rea will play Sylacauga’s Jonathan Vick in the quarterfinals.
