RHS goes 2-2 during Class 5A regional
The Russellville softball team finished 2-2 in the AHSAA Class 5A North Regional at the Florence Sportsplex to end the season.
RHS began play in the double-elimination tournament with a 8-2 win over Arab. The Lady Golden Tigers outhit their opponent 12-6.
Khristyan Huerta and Kaylee Suggs had three hits each to lead Russellville. Alexia Groce, Sadie Odom and Suggs led the team with two RBIs apiece.
Taitum Bishop was the winning pitcher going five innings. Bishop struck out seven and issued no walks. Suggs was in the pitching circle for two innings.
Russellville’s next game was a 14-3 loss to Ardmore. Ardmore scored in four of the five innings of the contest and outhit the Lady Golden Tigers 14-4.
Ticelee Gholston, Blevyn Sappington, Bishop and Odom had hits for RHS. Gholston had two RBIs and Bishop drove in one run. The Russellville pitchers were Bishop and Suggs.
The second day of the tournament began for RHS with a 5-4 victory over Scottsboro. Groce smacked a home run and additional extra-base hits were doubles by Bri McCulloch, Suggs and Gholston.
The hit leader for Russellville was Gholston with three. Russellville got RBIs from McCulloch, Bishop, Suggs, Groce and Chloe James.
Bishop pitched a complete game in the circle for the win. The righthander struck out eight Scottsboro batters.
Later that day, Boaz defeated Russellville 15-8 to eliminate the Lady Tigers.
RHS had nine hits with Groce leading the team with three including two doubles. Groce also had two RBIs to lead the squad. Gholston, McCulloch and Odom added one RBI each to the RHS total.
Suggs got the start in the circle and went 5.1 innings. Bishop pitched the final 1.2 innings in relief.
Head coach Rick Lawson’s Russellville team finished the season with a record of 28-28-1.
