County sets Pulaski Spur Road hearing
RUSSELLVILLE – A public hearing to vacate Pulaski Spur Road will be held at 8 a.m. on Aug. 18 before the Franklin County Commission’s regular business meeting.
The commission will consider public input at the hearing before voting on whether to proceed with the vacation.
Following the hearing, if the county decides to vacate the road, County Engineer Jason Baggett said the road would be gated and no longer maintained by the county. The closure would be documented with photographs, and the road would be removed from the county’s inventory, in accordance with guidance from the Alabama Department of Transportation.
Probate Judge Barry Moore explained that when a road is vacated, the right-of-way typically reverts to the adjoining property owners, with each side receiving half.
Baggett said he has contacted some of the adjoining landowners, including one who expressed no concerns. Others had not yet responded or were unavailable.
He noted one residence was so overgrown it was difficult to see from the right-of-way, and no one answered the door during a visit.
Commissioner Tracie Clark said she wants to make sure all landowners are contacted before a final decision is made.
