Tharptown to host first-ever county volleyball tournament

Volleyball has been growing in Franklin County for several years. When Red Bay started a program this year for the first time, it joined established programs like Belgreen and Tharptown. These schools got together and decided it was time to join the ranks of basketball, baseball and softball by having a Franklin County Tournament.

The tournament will be hosted by Tharptown High School Oct. 10. All matches will be in a best two out of three format.

Tharptown will play Red Bay at 1 p.m. Red Bay will play Belgreen at 2 p.m. Tharptown will play Belgreen at 3 p.m.

After the three matches, the teams with the two best records will play at 4 p.m. for the championship.

“We are excited to be able to host this first county tournament for volleyball,” said first-year volleyball coach Kamri Fleming. “Volleyball is a great sport. The girls love it, and the matches are exciting to watch. We look forward to a fun day Saturday.”

Because of COVID-19, masks will be required upon entry, and all fans are expected to keep their masks on while in the gymnasium.  Fans and teams are expected to remain seated in their designated areas in the gym.
