Kelly Davis, Scott Howard get cooking at Kelly’s Kitchen
Scott Howard and Kelly Davis have and put a new face on the former Too Fat Sisters: Kelly’s Kitchen.
Kelly’s Kitchen is open to serve up some home cookin’.
Opened last week in the former Too Fat Sisters restaurant on Highway 43 North, Kelly’s Kitchen is owned and operated by Kelly Davis and Scott Howard, who formerly ran Dusty’s BBQ in Littleville. When Howard heard that Too Fat Sisters might be for sale, he jumped on the opportunity to trade night shifts at Dusty’s, catering for the chicken plant, to long days of serving up comfort food at Kelly’s Kitchen – named, of course, for his wife.
Davis laughs when she tells the story. “I did not want my name on it,” she said. “I was leaning toward Mom’s Kitchen –“ but when she found out about a too-close-by “Momma’s Kitchen,” Howard’s insistence on Kelly’s Kitchen won out. “He got his way on that one,” she said.
Kelly’s Kitchen will serve up much the same menu as Too Fat Sisters, with a few additions, like boiled cabbage and baked ham. Crystal James will continue to run the kitchen. “It’s home cooking; that’s what the customers want,” Davis said. The dessert options will also be expanded. “I love baking. (We’ll serve) strawberry eclairs, chocolate eclairs – just whatever I’m in the mood to bake. It won’t be one set dessert. You come in this week, you might get cherry dream cake; you might get peanut butter cake. It’s just going to be kind of a mishmash. If people ask for something – I’m game.”
Davis said she plans to keep the interior much the same, while updating the décor just a little. She hopes to clean up around the outside of the restaurant, as well. She’s said she’s happy with the location.
“It’s got a good bit of traffic flow. I think it will be really good,” she said.
Davis works at the Russellville Post Office; Howard will be a regular face at the restaurant. “I just enjoy it. I enjoy the people,” he said.
“We love talking to people and cutting up and learning what goes on in the community from the people,” Davis said. “He wanted to do it, and he’s usually got a pretty good head about him for business, so, I’m game.”
Kelly’s Kitchen will be open Tuesday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday 6 a.m. to noon (breakfast only) and Sunday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. It will close from 10-11 a.m. to make the switch from breakfast to lunch.
