Russellville golf finishes with win

The Russellville boys golf team finished its regular season with a win Tuesday, defeating Central by 10 shots in a nine-hole match at Twin Pines.

Russellville fielded two teams in the tournament.

The Black Team won the tournament with a score of 152. Justin Overton and Alex Pounders led the Golden Tigers as both shot 37, good enough for a tie for second overall in individual competition.

Will Bragwell shot 38, Hagen Price shot 40 and Ty Trapp shot 42.

Blake Reed led the Gold Team with a score of 38, John Alex foster shot 46, Blake Bendall shot 52 and Dalton McGee shot 58.

The Gold Team finished seventh out of eight teams.

Russellville Black shot 152, Central shot 162, Haleyville shot 163, Lawrence County shot 165, Deshler shot 179, Russellville Gold shot 194 and Colbert Heights shot 238.

Russellville wrapped up an impressive season with the win. The Golden Tigers competed in 13 matches and finished no worse than second during the season, including nine first-place finishes.

They will compete in the sectional tournament Tuesday at Goosepond Country Club in Scottsboro for a chance to advance to sub-state.

Smith rolls

Lindsey Smith finished first Tuesday by defeating eight players from Lawrence County and two from Colbert County.

She has finished first or second in every match she has played this season.

She will compete in the sectional tournament Wednesday at Southern Gayles in Athens for a chance to advance to sub-state.
