Federal grant to add fencing at airport

With renovations having been made almost completely throughout the Russellville Municipal Airport facility, officials hope to complete one more project soon.
The city has been awarded a $141, 365 grant from the Federal Aviation Administration that will allow them to install perimeter fencing around the property and to re-mark the ramp.
The grant is one of 34 distributed to regional airports in Alabama for infrastructure improvements. In all, the state was awarded a total of $7,655,565.
The funding will allow fencing to be placed around the Russellville airport.
Harry Mattox, who operates Blue Diamond Aviation and serves as manager of the local airport, said that stray animals walking on the runway has been a constant problem.
A portion of the grant funds will be used to mark the ramp again.
The only remaining project that needs to be completed is the extension of the ramp, Mattox said.
