Rain washes out day one

The number 13 is thought by many to be unlucky and that would certainly apply to the 13th annual State Games of Mississippi baseball tournament.
Thursday's opening round of four games was rained out after just 12 minutes of play at Meridian Community College's Scaggs Field.
District 2 pitcher Wes Grillette stranded a pair of runners in the top of the first inning, while District 6 hurler Wade Broyles retired both batters he faced in the bottom of the first before play was suspended and the field was tarped.
Recurrent afternoon precipitation kept play from resuming as the field remained covered so that it would remain playable for the remainder of the tournament.
The eight teams will attempt to get back on track by playing six games both today and Saturday.
Whether the rain will allow six games today remains to be seen.
Using the Q.V. Sykes Complex is also a possibility should rain factor into today's schedule.
