East Miss shocks Southwest; Delta topples East Central

SUMMIT The East Mississippi Lions shocked 17th ranked Southwest Community College 10-7 here on Thursday night in the season opener for the Mississippi Junior College football teams.
Southwest saw a last-ditch field goal sail wide with one second left. The win moves East Mississippi to 1-0 on the season.
Southwest was up 7-3 in the fourth quarter when the Lions put together a go-ahead scoring drive. The march was capped on an 11-yard touchdown pass from Terion Reynolds to Michael Johnson. Place-kicker Frank Dimino of West Point added the extra point to make it 10-7, East with five minutes left in the game.
Reynolds was playing quarterback in place of starter Scotty Elliott of West Lauderdale who went down in the game with a knee injury.
The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead when Dimino booted a 43-yard field goal in the first half.
East will return home next Thursday against Copiah-Lincoln.
Delta 14, East Central 7
Quarterback Kiki Womack scored all 14 points to lead Mississippi Delta to the 14-7 season opening win over East Central Community College here at Gray-Bellipani Field in Moorhead.
Womack led MDCC on the game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter. The Trojans marched 71 yards on the strength of Womack completions of 35, 15 and 13 yards. That set up his two-yard plunge to make it 12-7 with 1:38 to play. Womack then hit Tavares Gideon for the two-point conversion and a 14-7 lead.
East Central reached the Delta 30-yard-line but could not get any closer as the game ended.
The Warriors broke out in front 7-0 when Bryan Bydniewskie scored on a two-yard run. Cedric Cotton added the PAT kick with 14:51 left in the first half.
It took MDCC just 23 seconds to answer with their first score. Womack took an option 79 yards for the touchdown. The kick failed to leave the score at 7-6. It stayed that way until the fourth quarter.
East Central returns to action against Coahoma next Thursday night.
