Green denied parole

MONTGOMERY — Parole has been denied for a man serving 50 years in a 1988 Colbert County stabbing case, authorities said.

The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles turned down parole for David Joseph Green, according to the Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles.

Green, 69, was convicted of second-degree assault in the stabbing of Janie Wimpee, according to court records.

His February 1988 indictment alleged he assaulted Wimpee with “a sharp, knife-like instrument.”

Green, who was from Phil Campbell, has served 37 years and 28 days of his 50-year sentence, according to the Alabama Department of Corrections.

He is in the Bibb County Correctional Facility.

Green was arrested by Colbert County deputies on Feb. 16, 1988, according to records. He was convicted on Aug. 15, 1988.

During the sentencing, it was determined he had convictions in two prior Florida cases, according to documents signed by then-Colbert County District Attorney Gary Alverson.

In 1976, he pleaded guilty in Polk County, Florida, to arson and breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, according to court records.

In 1986, Green pleaded guilty in Orange County to attempted aggravated battery, according to records.

In 2010, Green petitioned to have his sentence reduced to 25 years, but it was denied, according to records.

His next parole consideration date is April 1, 2030, according to corrections records.
