Russellville takes area series over Jasper during winning week

The Russellville Golden Tigers took the field for varsity baseball action and won their second area series of the season in as many tries. RHS followed that up by winning home games versus Arab and Ardmore Saturday to improve to 14-11.

Jasper 8, Russellville 7

Russellville went to Jasper March 28 to begin a Class 5A Area 14 series with the Vikings. The Golden Tigers scored five runs in the top of the first inning before Jasper answered with five runs of their own in the third to even the score. RHS came back with two runs in the fourth, but Jasper got the win in comeback fashion, with three runs in the sixth to deal the Golden Tigers’ their first area game loss of the season.

The Golden Tigers needed a win to have a chance of taking the series versus Jasper, and they got it in front of the home crowd in the first of two games March 30.

It took five innings for RHS to get the victory. Logan White was the only pitcher needed for the home team, and he allowed five hits and struck out six.

Banks Langston and Neyland Baker both homered and had three RBIs each.

For the second time this season, Russellville threw a combined no-hitter, and this time it was by three pitchers. White got his second start of the day and went two innings before he was followed in relief by Cayden Johns and Seth Burns during the five-inning game.

Russellville 6, Arab 3

In a battle of ASWA-ranked teams in Class 5A, the No. 9 Golden Tigers defeated No. 7 Arab April 1. Johns and Seth Burns held the Knights to one hit for the entire contest, with Johns pitching the game’s first five innings.

Russellville 5, Ardmore 3

The Golden Tigers won their fourth in a row with a victory over Ardmore.
