Homefolks U.S.A. (March 21, 2018)

Hi folks,

So many people have things, or stories to tell, but it is very difficult to have someone who is willing to listen.

This is sad because we all need someone to share something with. As you read this article, please think about someone who has a story to tell but who is really wanting to listen.

I have always thought of myself as a good listener. You can learn so much about a person or life in general if we would only take time to listen.

Recently I ran across an old report card I had from Rockwood School. The teacher would mark things that the students would need to make improvements on or things that were hindering their progress. One mark that I had was, “He talks too much.”

I hope that I have improved on that point because I want to talk less and listen more.

My good friend Omer was a great listener – and a great talker, too. You could learn so much from him and the many stories he could tell about his life. Maybe that is why he lived past 100 years of age.

Another great listener is my good friend Mike. He was a very successful businessman and a great salesperson, but he always had time to listen to your story as well. Mike is 94 years old and has recently moved from his home in Kentucky to a veterans home in Tennessee. He is adjusting well, and I am sure he has listened to a lot of the stories from folks who are trying to make his last days, good days.

It’s sad to say, but more folks do not listen. They want to tell you about everything that has happened in their lives, and most of it will be the bad things – very little about the good times.

I would hope every reader of Homefolks U.S.A. would pledge to themselves to be a better listener. You can learn so many good things from our friends and loved ones. Just give it a try. I am sure you will be quick to agree with me.

Thanks for reading our stories each week, and I can assure you that I am listening to every remark you make about our stories.

Til next time,

Your friend,

Bobby
