Howard Milton Herndon, 79, of Russellville, Ala., passed away Monday, October 10, 2011, at Russellville Hospital.
Mr. Herndon was a native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama, but had lived in Russellville for the past 32 years.  He was a member of Duncan Creek Baptist Church, Russellville, where he served as song director.  He was a retired salesman with Southern United Insurance Company.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, October 12, 2011, at 2 p.m., at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel, with burial in Duncan Creek Cemetery.  Officiating will be Bro. Harley Hollingsworth.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Bettye Reed Herndon; children, Bobby Herndon and Scott Herndon, both of Northport, Ala., Marie Smith, of Hammond, La.; stepchildren, Doug Reed, of Florence, Ala., and Deborah Mitchell, of Russellville; sisters, Sarah Hamby, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Dot Peale, of Selma, Ala.; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Florence Herndon.
Pallbearers will be Dustin Mitchell, Brandon Reed, Mike Smith, Sabin Contreras, Chris Herndon, Chris Patterson, Matt Smith, Josh Herndon.
Honorary bearers will be Norman Mitchell, Brian Mitchell, Zachary Herndon, Anders Baker.
