Betty Jean Mitchell
Betty Jean Mitchell, 72, of Russellville, died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at her residence after a 1-1/2 year battle with lung cancer.
She was born March 21, 1938, in Double Springs to Stevie and Jeanette Bell Smith. She married Julius Wayne Mitchell May 5, 1956, and he preceded her in death in 2009. She lived in Zion, Ill., from 1959 until 1994.
She retired from Cherry Electric Co. in Waukegan, Ill., in 1994 and moved to Russellville where she resided until her passing. She was passionate about her gardening, canning, cooking, sewing and spending time on her porch with family and friends. She was a Christian, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend who was an inspiration to all.
Services were at 1 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 26, 2010, at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel in Red Bay with Bro. A.G. Stepp officiating. Burial was in Burnout Cemetery.
Survivors are five children – Brenda Gunter and husband, Philip, of Tupelo, Miss., Anthony Mitchell, Russellville, Jeri Reasor and husband, Leo, and Saretha Watts and Stuart Bowler all of Zion, Ill., and Donna Mitchell Goggans and Brandon, of Russellville; three sisters – Loni Mae Abbott, Houston, Jewel Perry and Christine Worsham, both of Texas; 12 granddaughters; 8 great-grandsons; 5 great-granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Brandon Goggans, Jason Brannon and Alex Higgins.
