Show choir performs Thursday at RHS
The Russellville High School Show Choir will present “Raise a Ruckus” tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the RHS Auditorium.
According to choral director Millicent Bevis, the “knee-slapping and hand-clapping” show has a hillbilly theme that she thinks everyone will enjoy.
“We’ve got everything from crossover country artists Lady Antebellum and Shania Twain to classics like Patsy Cline; also, we’ve incorporated a variety of genres from Billy Ray Cyrus to Miley Cyrus,” Bevis said.
“We’re hoping there will be something for every audience member to relate to. Even if you’re not a country music fan, these songs are positively hypnotic and you can’t help but clap along and pat your foot.”
Bevis said the show choir has been working on this production since the beginning of the semester when they started rehearsing a medley of classic hillbilly hits like “Feudin’ and Fightin,’” “Next to Lovin,’” “Daddy Sang Bass” and “Mama Don’t Allow It.” Bevis said they decided the songs were good enough to build an entire show around.
“This is a fun show and the kids really get into the hillbilly vibe,” Bevis said. “The kids have embraced this program far better than I could have imagined. They take complete ownership of the songs and choreography and are all geared up for a great show.”
Tickets to the show are $5.00 and can be purchased at the door. Proceeds will go towards the RHS Coral Department to be used for future choral presentations and transportation to different events and opportunities.
