RHS rolls 42-0

MOULTON — The Russellville ground attack tore through Lawrence County, but the most impressive stat of the game came from the Golden Tigers’ defense, which allowed the Red Devils to gain nine total yards to propel Russellville to a 42-0 victory.

The Golden Tiger defenders gave up eight rushing yards on 31 carries and limited Lawrence County to one completion for one yard. The Red Devils (0-2, 0-1) managed to get two first downs in the game.

For the second week in a row the Russellville running backs abused the opposing defense, gaining 304 yards on 38 carries.

Russellville coach Doug Goodwin said the offensive line played well again this week and expects each of the linemen to grade out well when he looks at the game film.

Leading the way for Russellville (2-0, 1-0) was Brent Calloway who gained 179 yards on 10 carries and rushed for three touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 46 yards and another touchdown.

Calloway’s receiving touchdown came on a 13-yard reception from Devan Parker with 8:56 to play in the first quarter.

Calloway scored again seven minutes later on a 1-yard run to extend Russellville’s lead to 14-0. He added a 32-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter.

Grant Hagedorn found Romano Craig for a 16-yard touchdown pass midway through the second quarter to give the Golden Tigers a 28-0 lead at halftime.

Russellville scored its final two touchdowns in the third quarter with a 62-yard run by Calloway and a 7-yard run by Xavier Kirkman.

The Golden Tigers return home next week to host Athens.
