Russellville All-Stars reach state title game, fall to Westside-Mobile

The Russellville All-Stars battled back from Tuesday’s 10-4 loss to Westside-Mobile to knock Phenix City from the Little League state tournament with a 4-3 victory Wednesday.

The joy was short lived as Russellville’s rematch against Westside-Mobile ended with another loss and the team had to settle for second place in the tournament.

Russellville was tied with Westside-Mobile 5-5 going into the sixth inning, but the team from the southern end of the state rallied for the 9-6 victory to claim the state title.

Russellville’s Judd Ward was 3-for-3 at the plate while Grant Masterson and John Pierce added two hits each for Russellville.

Payton Nichols pitched a strong game, but Westside-Mobile’s strong hitting was able to prevail in the end.
