Tharptown girls place first at tournament in Belgreen

Heather Hatton had two hits, including a home run, and Jess Myrick pitched four solid innings of relief on Saturday as Tharptown defeated host Belgreen 12-5 to win the North Alabama Junior High Softball Invitational.
The Lady Wildcats (19-4) beat Phil Campbell and Russellville earlier on Saturday.
Against Belgreen, Myrick relieved Hatton after two innings and allowed just one run on one hit while striking out two.
Myrick, Laken Barnett and Hollie Hines each finished with two hits. Lauren Scott, Lindsey McCluskey and Chelsey McCluskey added one hit apiece.
Belgreen led 3-1 after one inning, but Tharptown rallied to take the lead for good with five runs in the second inning.
In previous action at the tournament:
Tharptown 5 Phil Campbell 1
Jess Myrick struck out nine in a complete game three-hitter to lead Tharptown past the Lady Bobcats.
Myrick and Phil Campbell ace Kim Clark locked up in a pitcher's duel through the first five innings, with Tharptown leading 1-0.
The Lady Wildcats broke the game open with four runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Laken Barnett and Hollie Hines each went 2-for-3 with a double for Tharptown. Heather Hatton, Lauren Scott and Brittany Allen each added one hit.
Tharptown 6 Russellville 0
Jess Myrick struck out 11 and allowed just two hits in seven innings.
Hollie Hines led Tharptown at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a home run. Laken Barnett, Heather Hatton, Myrick and Lindsey McCluskey each added one hit.
Sydney McDuffa had two hits for Russellville.
Regular season
Tharptown 8 Red Bay 3
Hollie Hines was 3-for-3 with a triple to lead the Lady Wildcats past Red Bay last Thursday at Tom Strange Park.
Jess Myrick also went 3-for-3, and Laken Barnett was 2-for-2. Heather Hatton added a double.
Myrick was the winning pitcher, striking out 10 and allowing just two hits in five innings.
Haley Hammock and Taylor Hester each had one hit for Red Bay.
