Bobcats come back on Eagles

ELLISVILLE Meridian Community College men's basketball team held a 44-38 lead midway through the second half of its game with Jones Junior College here Monday night at Bobcat Gym.
But the Bobcats scored 13 straight points and eventually outscored MCC 32-12 the remainder of the half to post a 70-56 South Division victory.
Eagles coach George Brooks said his club did not play team basketball over the part of the game.
Jones improves to 15-4 overall, 6-3 in the South Division. MCC falls to 13-7 overall, 3-6 in the league.
In the women's game, Wayne County freshman Natalie Jordan scored 36 points, and freshman Brittany Baham added 26 to lead the Lady Bobcats to
a 98-79 victory over MCC.
The Lady Bobcats are 11-8 overall, 6-3 in division play. MCC drops to 10-10, 1-8. Jones visits Co-Lin Thursday, while MCC goes to Hinds.

The Eagles led 24-18 late in the first half when Jones sophomore John Gray of Wayne County scored. Jones' Tim Broomfield then got back-to-back dunks off offensive rebounds to tie the score at 24.
The Bobcats led 29-27 at the half and took a 36-29 lead with 16:42 left to play when Milton Collins scored.
But the Eagles went on a 15-2 run, culminated by a Greg Powell putback, to take a 44-38 lead with 12:42 remaining.
That's when the Bobcats took charge. Gray's basket off an assist by Collins gave Jones the lead for good at 45-44 at the 10:55 mark.
The Bobcats stretched the lead to as much as 69-49 with 1:44 left when Marcus Evans scored.
Collins led Jones with 20 points and had nine rebounds. Shedrick Kirk added 10 points. Broomfield had 8 points, 12 rebounds and 9 blocked shots.
Jamaine Winfield led the Eagles with 15 points. Rodney Hampton added 12 points.

Jones coach Sandra Sumrall was pleased with her team's effort.
Jones led 30-29 late in the first half when they went on an 8-0 run, capped by a Jordan basket when she drove the baseline. That put them up 38-29 with
2:05 left in the half. The Lady Bobcats were up 44-34 at halftime.
Jones continued to surge early in the second half, outscoring MCC 20-10 just less than six minutes into the half. Bay Springs' freshman Brittany Martin scored at the 14:14 mark to put the Lady Bobcats up 64-44.
The Lady Bobcats' longest lead of the night was at 95-69 with 3:28 left when Jordan scored again.
Martin added 15 points for Jones. Wayne County 4-foot-11 freshman guard Tyleshia Arrington played 18 minutes and dished out nine assists.
Danielle Cooper led MCC with 19 points, while Stephanie Mosley added 17 and Chelse' Alford had 16.
