Charges against a 38-year-old man were upgraded to murder and he was re-arrested Friday in connection with the Aug. 11 death of his wife, Tonya Redmond.
James C. Redmond, whose address was listed as County Road 327, Enterprise, was originally charged with aggravated assault on Aug. 9 and released three days later on $50,000 bond. Following action by the Lauderdale County Grand Jury, he was back in custody Friday and being held without bond in the county jail.
Authorities said Tonya Redmond suffered second-degree burns on more than 28 percent of her body on June 29. She told officers in a written statement that
her husband doused her with gasoline and then ignited the fuel with a cigarette.
She died at the Mississippi Firefighters Memorial Burn Center at Delta Regional Medical Center
