Lions take first trip of year

By By Tony Krausz / assistant sports editor
Sept. 17, 2003
SCOOBA Following its first win of the year, in which the team scored its first points of the season, East Mississippi Community College will leave the nest of Sullivan-Windham Memorial Field for the first time in 2003.
The Lions (1-1) travel to Booneville to take on the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers (1-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday.
EMCC's inaugural bus trip of the year follows an emotional game, in which the Lions tallied a 10-6 victory over the Gulf Coast Community College Bulldogs (1-1) at home last Thursday.
The Lions first trip away from the Scooba campus begins an end of the season stretch in which the team alternates home and away games for the final seven weeks of the season.
EMCC's venture to take on Northeast pits the Lions against a team in a similar situation.
The Tigers lost their first game, but they rebounded in week two to notch a victory over the East Central Community College Warriors.
EMCC and Northeast have more in common than they way they started the season.
Goode said the Tigers defense is very similar in style to what the Lions run.
The Lions head coach also said he sees a lot of the same patterns in Northeast's offense that EMCC has seen in other opponents.
EMCC will try to switch up its offense a little in the third game of the season.
If the offense can find surer hands in its receiving corps and the defense builds off its end-of-game stance from the Gulf Coast win, Goode may get to praise his team as much as he did after they defeated the Bulldogs.
