WASHINGTON Federal funding totaling $1,595,800 has been approved for water and waste water infrastructure upgrades in Neshoba and Newton counties.
U.S. Senator Trent Lott and U.S. Rep. Chip Pickering made the announcement Monday.
The first award is a $1 million federal grant to the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. The money will be used by the tribe to install a mechanical aeration sewage treatment plant, lift stations and sewage collection lines.
The second award is a $327,800 loan and a grant of $268,000 for the Beulah Hubbard Water Association in Newton County. The money will be used for equipment to help reduce the iron content in the new well water. The award follows earlier federal funding totaling more than $1.4 million.
Lott said East Central Mississippi is well-suited for new growth.
Both awards will be administered through the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Office of Rural Development.
