Three Meridian Community College students have been chosen to receive the Austin and Alice James Accounting Scholarships.
The $1,000 awards are funded through The MCC Foundation. Recipients must earn an "A" in accounting to be eligible.
Kevin McDonald of Quitman is a sophomore studying business administration. He is a member of the MCC tennis team and has been tapped for Phi Theta Kappa, the international scholastic society for two-year college students.
A graduate of Southeast High School, Tania Wolverton of Meridian is also a member of PTK. She is an accounting major and works part-time at a local super market.
A fitness management major, Jason Clayton Holladay is a graduate of Clarkdale High School. Another member of PTK, he is a volunteer for My College Cares, Wesley House and Children Fest.
Roshundia Lynette McKenzie of Meridian has been named the National Association of Retired Federal Employees scholarship recipient at Meridian Community College. The award is funded through The MCC Foundation.
A full-time student and mother, McKenzie also works part-time in the health field. She is a sophomore in the Associate Degree Nursing Program with plans to work toward her bachelor's degree after graduation from MCC. She is married and her children are 8 and 10 years old.
DECATUR Karen Robinson of Meridian was among the students tapped at East Central Community College for membership in Theta Xi Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year Colleges.
Robinson is a freshman majoring in liberal arts. Membership in the honor society is by invitation only and requires a minimum 3.5 grade point average. Dr. Shelby Harris and Christy Ferguson are the Theta Xi sponsors.
OXFORD E.A. Herron of Meridian, a freshman at the University of Mississippi, was initiated recently into the Alpha Mu chapter of Kappa Delta sorority. Herron is a broadcast journalism major and an active member of Campus Crusade for Christ. She is the daughter of Charles and Beth Herron of Meridian.
MONTEVALLO, Ala. Joseph Mure of Meridian was recently named to the President's List at the University of Montevallo. The President's List included more than 295 students. To make the President's List, a student must have a 3.8 grade point average and be a full-time student.
Sarah Marie Balzli, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. Thomas Balzli, of Meridian, graduated magna cum laude on Jan. 6 from the University of Notre Dame. Balzli earned a bachelor's degree in English. A 1998 graduate of St. Bernard Preparatory School, Balzli is currently attending Springhill College in Mobile, Ala. pursuing a master's degree in elementary education.
COLUMBUS Mississippi University for Women students Hollie Campe of Collinsville and Kimberly Burrage of Meridian were recognized on the President's List for the fall 2001 semester. To qualify for the President's List, students must be enrolled full-time and have a 4.0 quality point average.
JACKSON Ten students from the Meridian area were named to the Dean's List and President's List for fall 2001 at Millsaps College. Students who earn a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.849 are named to the Dean's List; students who earn a grade point average of 3.850 to 4.0 are named to the President's List.
Dean's List scholars include: Julie M. Strickland, Stacey E. Douglas, William W. Selman II, David L. Yeh and Daniel P. Culpepper all of Meridian; Lori E. Nichols and Yulon C. Stewart, both of Philadelphia; and Lauren M. Everett of Newton.
President's List scholars include: Chrystal L. Francis of Quitman; and John A. Kueven of Meridian.
