Tigers stomp Rattlers 50-24
The Tanner Rattlers had no answer for Red Bay running back Colbie King and a dominant Tiger offensive line Friday night. King amassed 310 yards rushing on 39 carries and scored five touchdowns in Red Bay’s 50-24 win over Tanner.
The win helps keep Red Bay in contention for the top spot in Class 2A, Region 7, where there is a three-way tie between the Tigers, Colbert County and Addison.
“Our offensive line had a great game and controlled the line of scrimmage,” said Red Bay coach Michael Jackson. “Colbie found the holes and had a great game running the football.”
Red Bay had 478 total yards of offense in the game and held Tanner to 202 yards.
Like in many of Tanner’s previous games, the Rattlers played Red Bay tough for a half but eventually wore down under the Tigers’ relentless run game.
“We had a tough start with two turnovers in the first seven minutes but were able to settle down and control the game,” said Jackson.
The Rattlers struck first with a 14-yard touchdown run to take a 6-0 lead with 7:19 to go in the first quarter.
Red Bay tied the game with 3:06 to go in the first quarter on a three-yard run by quarterback Kolby Bragwell.
The Tigers extended their lead to 14-6 in the second quarter on a five-yard run by King. King also scored the two-point conversion.
Tanner cut Red Bay’s lead to 14-12 with 4:14 to go in the first half on a one-yard run, but Red Bay answered with 1:39 to go in the half on a three-yard run by King to give the Tigers a 20-12 halftime lead.
Red Bay dominated the second half, outscoring Tanner 30-12.
The Tigers extended their lead to 26-12 with 9:21 to go in the third quarter on a 31-yard run by King.
King added another score with 2:19 to go in the third quarter on a 17-yard run. King added two more points on the conversion to give Red Bay a 34-12 lead.
Tanner scored on a 10-yard pass to cut Red Bay’s lead to 34-18 with 1:22 to go in the fourth quarter.
Red Bay scored two more unanswered touchdowns to open the fourth quarter to give the Tigers a 50-18 lead. King scored first on a four-yard run, and Colin Humphres added the second touchdown on a 12-yard run.
Tanner scored a final late score with 56 seconds to go in the game.
Red Bay will host Tharptown Friday night for Homecoming.
