West Elementary honors former teachers
Russellville Elementary School hosted a Retired Teachers Luncheon on Thursday for teachers who have retired from either RES or College Avenue Elementary.
RES Principal Kristy Ezell said that the event is something the school sponsors every year.
“This is something we like to do to honor our retired teachers and give them a chance to visit and catch up with each other,”
Ezell said.
The event is catered by the school and Ezell said they usually host the event around the holidays.
“We always have a good response and we feel like these teachers really enjoy it,”
she said.
“The event also gives our current teachers a chance to visit with our retired teachers since some of them worked together.”
Marge Robinson who taught Title I Reading at the old junior high school and retired from College Avenue has participated in the Retired Teachers Luncheon for several years now.
“This is a real nice thing that they do for us and it is something I look forward to and enjoy,”
Robinson said.
Long-time educator and principal Joe Pride, III, said that he enjoys being able to catch up with his former co-workers.
“I spent more than half of my life with most of these ladies, so it’s nice to have an event where we can visit with one another and reminisce about our days in the school system,”
he said.
