Malcolm "Fritz" Taylor Stancil

Malcolm "Fritz" Taylor Stancil, 91, of Hackleburg, Ala. passed away Friday, Dec. 11, 2009 at Floyd E. "Tut" Fann VA Home in Huntsville, Ala. He was born on March 28, 1918 to John Franklin Stancil and Rosaetta Taylor Stancil in Spruce Pine, Ala.
The funeral service was held Dec. 13, 2009 at Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Stancil officiating. Interment was in Shady Grove Cemetery. Military honors were conducted by WWII veterans from American Legion Post 31 in Tuscumbia, Ala.
Pallbearers were Keith and Dustin Lawler, Mark Hulvey, Ralton Stancil, Wendall Senkbeil and Everett Clement.
He was preceded in death by parents, John &Rosaetta Stancil; siblings, Willie, Leatha, Orville, Bob, Lonnie, Louie, Jack, Margaret, Guy and Clarrice Stancil.
He was 1 of 13 children. His brothers and sisters were, John William Stancil, Leatha Stancil McLeroy, Orville Stancil, Robert Ellette, Lonnie Franklin Stancil, Louie Herman Stancil, Jackie Melvin Stancil, Margaret Mitilda Caroline Stancil, Guy Stancil, Clarissia Ruth Stancil Willis, Catherine Stancil Arnold, and Wilburn Hansell Stancil. His grandfather Stancil moved all his family from the Boaz/Albertville area to Spruce Pine where he bought land from Jasper Land Company. He bought several hundred acres in the community that is now called, Mt Hebron. Mt Hebron was the name of the church his father helped establish by donating land for the church and cemetery. His grandfather gave all his sons land for a farm. Malcolm's father had ninety somewhat acres, that Malcolm grew up on. Malcolm would always tell everyone that the well in their front yard had the best tasting water he ever tasted. He would tell about his mother cooking around 100 biscuits every morning to feed everyone. His mother was the family historian. Malcolm inherited this from his mother. He could always remember dates and could tell you the date of everything that was significant in his life. He played basketball at Pleasant Hill School where everyone that knew him talked about what good basketball players he and his brother Guy were. He married Madie Hill Stancil December 3, 1946. They had one daughter, Doris Stancil Fleming, two granddaughters, Tammy Fleming Hulvey and husband, Mark and Bridget Fleming Troup and two great-granddaughters, Sara Hulvey and Fleming Troup.
He was a World War II veteran. He served in the US Army from January 16, 1942 until November 20, 1945. He served in the 441st. Signal Corp as a telephone lineman. While in the military he served in Panama, New Guinea, Australia, Mindora, Philippines, Manila, Guam, Okinawa and Saipan. He shipped home on October 29, 1945 to San Francisco arriving November 11, 1945. He traveled to Camp Shelby, Miss. where he was discharged November 20, 1945. He arrived by bus to his home in Spruce Pine, Ala. on November 21, 1945. He served 46 months, 34 months overseas and 12 months in the states. His rank was T-5 Corporal.
He retired from Frontier Homes trailer plant in Haleyville, Al.
He loved to play checkers and played all of his life with anyone who would play with him. He traveled to tournaments in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia and often won or placed and brought home trophies.

Evelyn V. Wollert, 80, of Hamilton, Ala., died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.
She was a native of St. Louis, Mo., but had lived in Hamilton for the past ten years.
A memorial service was held Dec. 15, 2009, at Pinkard Funeral Home Chapel in Russellville with Clinton Knowless officiating.
She is survived by daughter, Shelly Isom, of Hamilton, Ala.; son, Vance Brown, of Mantachee, Miss.; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wollert; sons, Joe Michael Brown, Jeffery Allen Brown, and Craig Mitchell Brown.
