Shoals attempting to set new Christmas carol record

In just over one week, Guinness Book of World Record's officials will be at Braly Stadium in Florence as the Shoals attempts to break the world record for the most people ever assembled to sing Christmas carols.
The event will begin at 1:30 pm on Sunday, Dec. 17. There will be sign in sheets, for singers only, so that the number of people attending can be documented, according to the event press release.
Everyone who wishes to participate must be signed in by no later than 2 pm.
"This is the only way to document with Guinness the accurate number of individuals who are there," Mark Allen, planning committee member, said.
The crowd will sing 12 different Christmas Carols with a total of 20 minutes of singing. It is vital that every person sing the whole time. Guinness will have officials in the crowd to ensure everyone's participation.
Braly Stadium holds 15,000 seats. The current world record was set in 2004 in South Carolina at just over 7,514. The goal for our event is 8,000 people.
Everyone is encouraged to wear Christmas colors because an aerial photograph will be taken.
All eight entrances to Braly Stadium will be open, and parking will be the same as any UNA game. There are parking areas all around the stadium including side streets around Braly.
"This is more than just a world record attempt, it's also a chance for our area to come together and embrace Christmas and display the true meaning of the holiday," Allen said.
