Relay for Life committee needs additional sponsors

With the Relay for Life's "Saddle Up for a Cure" kickoff celebration just over a month away, the Relay Committee is focusing on team development and recruitment of additional sponsors.
"We want to encourage all past teams to get involved this year, but we also need new teams for this year's Relay," James Woodall, chairman for the Relay Committee, said.
The 2007 Relay Kickoff will be Jan. 23 at the First Baptist Church of Russellville at 6 p.m. The American Cancer Society (ACS) will have packets for team captains, and this will be an opportunity for those wishing to establish a team to get involved, Woodall said.
"Our goal is to raise as much money as we possibly can, and the more teams we have working toward this goal, the better," Woodall said.
Last year, the Franklin County Relay had 28 teams and three sponsors. Together, Franklin County raised $112,251 for the ACS, Beth Faulkner said.
"We [Franklin County] always do a good job on raising money, and last year's total was outstanding," Faulkner said.
In addition to new teams, the Relay Committee is searching for more sponsors for this year's event. Sponsors supply additional funds that will go to ACS.
"We want to encourage area businesses to become Relay sponsors to make the Relay more successful," Faulkner said.
Adding sponsors to the Relay is new for Franklin County. However, sponsorships are commonplace in other Relays across the nation and the world, Faulkner said.
Sponsors will be recognized on event t-shirts and advertising materials, including newspaper ads.
Anyone wishing to become a sponsor can do so by contacting Beth Faulkner at 256-767-0825.
