COLUMN: Ole Miss, LSU and USM get my prediction

By By Austin Bishop / EMG regional sports director
Sept. 25, 2004
Maine?
You've got to be kidding me.
Maine?
Yep, Maine.
Now come on guys, did any of you pick Maine to beat Mississippi State? Well, besides that rabid Ole Miss Rebel fan out there who would pick the All-Girls School to beat the Bulldogs just because he loathes MSU.
And besides, Al Brown, my music-loving co-picker, missed on that selection as well. In fact Al and I both missed a few picks.
I went 2-2 last week, getting the Ole Miss and Tennessee games correct, while missing on Auburn beating LSU and … of course, the Maine thing.
That's is still weird to even think out loud, must less right down. Maine beat State. Dang, that's gotta' hurt.
Al hung up a big 1-3, missing on the Tennessee-Florida game as well.
Well, enough of last week, it's time for this week.
I go into week three of the Austin and Al college football picks fiasco with a slim one game lead. I'm 6-2 and Al is 5-3.
Ole Miss at Wyoming
Boy, this just looks like an upset coming. And trust me, Wyoming is a much better football team than Maine. These Cowboys can play.
And you just know a big deal is being made about an SEC team making the trip to Laramie to play.
This one will be very, very close.
THE PICKS: Al says Ole Miss rolls 31-10. I pick the Rebels to win, but like the score to be more like 27-17 and to be close late in the game.
Mississippi State at LSU
Al thinks LSU will be out to prove a point after a tough loss to Auburn.
That was a funny play indeed, but I see nothing funny in Baton Rogue on Saturday.
Ouch, ouch and triple ouch!!!
THE PICKS: Al says LSU wins big 49-7. Methinks LSU wins a little bigger than that, 52-7.
USM at Tulane
I bet Tulane is glad it isn't playing Maine this week. After all the mighty Green Wave did lose to State by three touchdowns.
THE PICKS: Al goes with the Golden Eagles, 38-14. I'm thinking more like 49-10 in USM's favor.
Miss. Valley at Jackson St.
I think this game is going to be pretty close.
THE PICKS: Al goes with the JSU Tigers 37-10. I pick JSU 24-19.
Alabama at Arkansas
Al loves it when I put Alabama on the pick list.
It gives him a great chance to promote his radio station, WZKR 103.3, because that's where you can hear the Crimson Tide play.
I agree with Al on the fact that I'm surprised that 'Bama is the underdog, especially by a touchdown.
But I do believe the Razorbacks will be ready to rumble in Fayetteville.
THE PICKS: Al says the Tide rolls 23-20. I'm going with Arkansas 35-27.
