Football look ahead for rivalry week

Russellville (4-2) hosts Hatton (4-2) – The Russellville Golden Tigers and Hatton Hornets will meet for the first time on the gridiron this week. Russellville is coming off a three-overtime region loss to Fairview while Hatton is on a two-game winning streak beating Westminster Christian and West Limestone.

Vina (4-2) hosts Waterloo (1-5) – Waterloo was the lone win for the Red Devils last year, beating the Cougars 42-32. This game is a good chance for the Red Devils to get back on the winning track after a 46-0 loss to Hackleburg.Vina is 2-2 in region play, while Waterloo is 0-4. Waterloo’s lone win was a seasonopening victory over Tharptown, 34-0. Vina leads the series 27-20.

Phil Campbell (1-5) hosts Carbon Hill (1-5) – The Phil Campbell Bobcats and Carbon Hill Bulldogs are both trying to salvage some wins in the back half of the schedule. Both teams’ playoff hopes are gone. The Bobcats are coming off a 44-6 loss to Midfield. Carbon Hill lost to Winfield 41-6, and Oakman, 41-0, over the past two weeks. Phil Campbell beat Carbon Hill last year 52-13. This will be Phil Campbell’s Homecoming game.

Tharptown (0-6) hosts Red Bay (0-6) – It has been a tough year for Red Bay and Tharptown. Neither team has a win, but that will change this week. Red Bay has never lost to Tharptown in ten tries. The Tigers have outscored the Wildcats, 56070. Last year, the Tigers beat the Wildcats, 50-14.

Belgreen (2-3) has a long break in the schedule. The Bulldogs will return to play Oct. 25 on the road at Victory Christian.
